I left Tulsa yesterday at 5:30am and arrived in San Pedro Sula at 10:45am. Pretty quick trip (though there was a one hour time change). After spending considerable time at the insurance company and nearly three hours at immigration we made to the mission center where all seems to be going well. I visited all the classes today as well as the dormitory construction site. That is really coming along well. Joel also has the grounds looking beautiful. Tomorrow morning Nicolas and I will pick up a team in San Pedro and head out to a missionary conference down south over the weekend. - - Gary
Cheryl’s kidney procedure was moved up two more weeks, to October 2, because the lab report revealed that she had an E.coli infection. Therefore, our return to Honduras is again delayed. This is one of those time that we have to trust that God IS in control of all things. Normally I would just stay here, but I can tell in talking to Nicolas there are some things that need our input, for example the dorm construction and I need to be there for a Honduran missionary conference this next week-end. I plan to leave tomorrow morning and return in a week to be here for the surgery.
Yesterday after church, Tom Hagen, some young men and I loaded the first 500 children’s Christmas gifts and we took them to the warehouse to await shipping. I wish everyone here could have the experience of handing out those gifts to our children. Gary Progress made on construction for the dorms. Our goal is to be ready to put the I beam in for the second floor when FUMC construction team arrives in December.
Sunday was our second baptismal service at Templo Evangelico Emanuel where six people were baptized. These baptisms are giving strength to the village church. Yesterday, Wednesday, Cheryl had her procedure done on her kidney; it is too soon to tell if it is going to work. Also yesterday Nicolas took Jose, the man in our church with cancer, to El Salvador to see his doctor who uses naturopathy. Nicolas said it went well. I got a call today from Nicolas saying that pastor Batista’s wife, Juliza, is in the hospital with symptoms that appear serious.
