THOUGHT FOR TODAY: Listening to stories on the news of the rich and famous reminds me we should be seeking a life in Christ that would not change tomorrow if we were to receive a fortune today.
I thought we were on top of the car repairs when last Friday Nicholas called from Puerto Cortes and the clutch had gone out of the truck. Ever try to find parts for a 1990 Ford F150 in a third world country? Then, we were taking the red van on its final test run before turning it over to Marcos and began having transmission problems. Ever try to find…. I spent more time in the bank today trying to persuade them that back in July I really didn't get the cash from the ATM that I was charged for. They had agreed to review the video but told me today they only keep them 60 days. Our US bank turned me down too, but I will keep trying if for nothing else than as a matter of principle. School officials came today to pick up the A/C we donated from Jenny’s apartment back in San Pedro.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY: Listening to stories on the news of the rich and famous reminds me we should be seeking a life in Christ that would not change tomorrow if we were to receive a fortune today. I had an e-mail from Mauricio, the general manager of the Land Apparel Company in Puerto Cortes, and he has nearly 60 industrial sewing machines at "disposal prices". Sounds like a lot but they have 700 employees just in Cortes. We will likely need 25-30…. More good news; we just learned that the engineering students from Oklahoma State University are going to make a special trip over their winter break. Their group leader says they've got big things planned for the water treatment project. With regard to the project, Joel had been getting a 60% success rate, but today back down to 30%. It's probably because of the rain… I met with the contractor yesterday regarding construction of the dorms. He said he will have cost figures Monday.... Today Nicholas and I went to the shore and exercised for about an hour. I need to get back into shape. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Yesterday I received the monthly invoice from our courier service. At the bottom of the page was this quote: "To get something you never had you have to do something you've never done”. This is much like something I once heard a pastor say, “If you do what you've always done; you'll be what you've always been." Profound is often simple. When Cheryl's not here I don't eat as well as when she is; I don't like to cook. Last night someone served me an ear of field corn fixed over an open fire and I ate the whole thing…. this noon I had rice, beans, ground beef, and a tortilla. Tonight I'm having rice, beans, ground beef, and a tortilla. Seriously, I should be grateful; some folks have less than that... It was raining this pm so the only people in church were Luis’s family and me. However, Selvin preached like he had a full house.… Cheryl suggested canvassing Nueva Campana before service next week. It’s still cool and rainy today so I have the windows open; the monkeys up on the mountain are going crazy… Lately I've read several admonitions to memorize Scripture. I've known the value; how soon we forget… Latest grade report; Perla-94; Carlos-97!! (He also got “MB” (?) in morality and socializing; I’ll have to check that out).
THOUGHT FOR TODAY: Our morning devotions are not just a show of respect for our Savior. They are most practical and essential. Without definite and daily direction from God it is highly unlikely that at the end of the day we will have accomplished His purposes for us. That’s bad news. The good news -- tomorrow we get to try again. (You remind me; I’ll try to remember to remind you) |
