they boarded in Houston on their way to San Pedro. Half of the team will do construction and the other half will hold a medical clinic. God Bless Lucinda, who is coming with a injured foot. We look forward to what God will do. The first picture is of our construction boss, George, and the little
girl is the one who saved our necks. After the engineer did not show for days and then said he could not come for another 2 weeks, we were stumped. We could not start anything until an engineer marked the lot. Jiliza is an engineering student and lives in a nearby village. Our constr. Boss said he would see if she could help. She just happened to be out of school right now and met with us and took on those complicated blue prints, studied them and then started giving out orders. The lot was marked, strung and now all trenches are dug. We have even cut through that security wall to undergird them with rebar. You can see that in the last picture. We have hired some very poor young men in need of work. What a blessing for them and their families. One of these young men is the son of a recent widow with seven children. WOW ! let's keep praying that the funds will continue to come in so we do not have to stop this momentum. Our digging crew has continued to move steadily forward—much quicker than we expected. Several of the workers are guys we have known from years past. It’s good to be able to provide them a job. Today they started installing the rebar to reinforce the walls. I had a productive meeting with our lawyer today regarding our tax status; she will be bringing some documents out here on Friday.
Several people have died of dengue fever; I heard today that we are in a red alert. Gary spent his 70th Birthday today doing what he did 13 years ago, going door to door in the villages evangelizing. Pastor Batista, Nelson, our computer teacher, and Selvin, the Paz’s son in law that has been working with us in the church, went along. They spent the morning in Seis de Mayo and the afternoon in Los Chorros, across the highway. As a result, three people made a solid commitment to Christ. They along with three others that accepted Christ last month will start discipleship classes in the church and prepare for Baptism. Yuliza, Pastor Batista’s wife prepared Venezuelan food for our lunch. What a special Birthday.
Tomorrow the engineers are to arrive to mark the lot for the dorm construction to begin. We hope to get the footings in before the Christ Presbyterian construction team arrives June 29th. What an answer to prayer. We arrived back in Honduras Monday noon and by evening had pretty much settled in again. Pastor Nelson and Juliza Batista arrived that night at 8 pm and stayed at the Paz’s hotel. They came out this afternoon and then we had dinner at our place tonight. We were able to get caught up on several things…. Nelson Osorto, computer teacher, preached three times while the pastor was gone and several of his students are attending church regularly. Three have accepted Christ
Each year volunteers working with Gathering Hearts for Honduras sends Christmas boxes to the needy children in the impoverished villages near Seis de Mayo, Honduras. Many of these children have never received a Christmas gift and it is the event of the year for them. Each box not only has gifts, but personal hygiene items, school supplies and a child's coloring book presenting the Gospel. This has proved to be a successful evangelistic tool as well as enabling the Kuneys to win the trust of the people. The day the gifts are distributed long lines form and often there is a need for crowd control. Nevertheless, this has been a rewarding experience and it has helped to reach people of not only Seis de Mayo, near the mission center, but in what we call the "jungle area" as well where there is severe poverty. If you would like to participate in this ministry, click here for additional information and for pictures of previous Christmas box deliveries. For participating individuals and churches: Here is (1). an Informational Letter for printing and handing out to friends and (2). a supply list of the items we include in the boxes:
Cheryl and I are traveling through Kentucky, Ohio and Michigan sharing about the work in Honduras. We are staying in a different place every night, but it has been great to reunite with family and friends.
Pastor Travis Rutland of the Glad Tidings church in Taccoa, GA hosted us to speak briefly in his church, then up to Kentucky to see my Mother and family and our newlyweds, Michael and Savannah one more time. We then were in our dear family friends' home of Bob and Nancy Maison in Carey, Ohio where we spoke to my Dad’s former church, ParkView. What a blessing it was to be with those who have been in our lives for years. Please pray for us as we continue to travel and share the work Christ is doing in Honduras. |
